I just spotted this cool little link over at digg, and by golly if it isn't comics related. The link I am posting will take you to Andy's Comic Archive. In particular he has a cool pictorial tour outlining the evolution of what we know as the word balloon. Starting out as scrolls floating above people's heads up to balloons that look like what cartooners use today.
